About CEPID B3
Center for Research in Biology of Bacteria and Bacteriophages
The Center for Research in the Biology of Bacteria and Bacteriophages (CEPID B3) is a center of excellence dedicated to understanding the mechanisms underlying the reproduction and behavior of bacteria and their main predators, bacteriophages.
Excellence in basic research
At CEPID B3, research is conducted at the molecular level, aiming to uncover the fundamental mechanisms of biology. This is basic research, focused on generating knowledge that may, in the long term, lead to applications in health and technology.
Our research involves model bacterial species with diverse lifestyles and originating from different environments (soil, water, human and plant hosts).
In more than 20 laboratories across five institutions in the state of São Paulo (USP, Unicamp, Unesp, Unifesp, and IAC), we conduct research in eight main areas:
Commitment to science dissemination
In addition to conducting high-level research, our mission also includes bringing science closer to non-specialist audiences. To this end, we promote the dissemination of high-quality scientific knowledge in accessible ways through educational initiatives and science communication activities.
